Residents give thanks over peaceful Sallah celebration

Mubi (Adamawa) – Residents of the commercial town of Mubi in Adamawa joined other people across the state to mark a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Activities  in the town show that the Eid prayers and the usual durbar at the emir’s palace were conducted peacefully amidst tight security.
Some residents who spoke  expressed gratitude to God for the return of peace and prayed for its sustenance.
“Everything has been peaceful so far and many of us used the Sallah period to pray for lasting peace in the town, our state and Nigeria in general,” said Mohammed Kura, a resident.
Aliyu Usman, Ahijo Idris and Lawan Mohammed, also expressed gratitude to God for the return of normalcy and the peaceful Sallah celebration.
“We thank God almighty for the peace. Our commendation also goes to the government, traditional and religious leaders for their sustained effort to ensure peace.
“The celebration has been colourful particularly the durbar and horse race at the emir’s palace.
“Except that many prominent personalities particularly our politicians in Abuja and Yola did not show up as usual for the celebration,” Idris observed.
In his Sallah message, the Emir of Mubi, Alhaji Abubakar Isa, sued for peace and urged the people to be security conscious and to support security agents in maintaining peace.
Isa expressed gratitude to God for the return of normalcy and bumper harvest recorded in the area this season.
Meanwhile, the Adamawa Government has relaxed the curfew imposed on Mubi following recent violence in the area.
Dr Calvin Alahira, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Media and Publicity, told NAN that “the curfew is now from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. as against 3 p.m. to 6 a.m.” (NAN)
